British Transport Police (BTP) will be holding recruitment events at Southport railway station on Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5ht May to encourage people to join the Community Volunteer Scheme.

Inspector Jayne Lewis will be looking for volunteers to donate their time and support BTP in their area.

She said: “We hope volunteers from across the community will bring their specialist skills, local knowledge and, most importantly, a commitment of time to support their community’s officers, police staff and Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

“Our staff and officers will be available at the events to answer questions about the scheme. They will also be able to advise potential volunteers on how to apply, and provide information about how the time they devote will be spent”.

Volunteers will be based at BTP’s offices at Southport railway station, which is fully accessible, with car parking facilities and a designated area within the building for volunteers.

Insp Lewis added: “The Southport NPT is a busy team of 10 police officers and Police Community Support Officers who patrol the Merseyrail Northern Line between Sandhills, Southport, Ormskirk and Kirkby. We expect that our volunteers will provide office support, cover the front desk and contribute to writing the monthly which is distributed to the local community and placed on BTP’s website.

“The scheme is in place to complement the police officers and staff we currently have. By taking on volunteers with transferable skills and knowledge, we hope to make more time for police officers to be seen and heard within their communities.
